GOALIE TOOLBOX LEARNING RESOURCE

‘Shift To Load - Butterfly Slide’ Instruction Video

VIDEO OVERVIEW

Skill Chunk: Coiled Leg Load To Start Slide Transition
Core Element:
Active Sliding Base
Technical Skill: Butterfly Slide

This instruction video will zoom in on the ‘skill chunk’ of a technical ‘Core Element’ and analyze the Body Alignment and Muscular Engagement needed when setting up and executing the ‘whole’ Technical Skill.

PRE CLINIC LEARNING PREP

Challenge yourself to mentally download the information by watching the video several times with the intention of understanding the activation and configuration lines needed to correctly execute the skill.

This understanding of the skill will better allow you to be guided by the instructors and correct yourself with a ‘deep thinking’ awareness during training clinics, team practices and in-game performance.

Estimated At Home Practice: 18 – 24 minutes

FOUNDATIONAL SKATING

Inside Edge Isolation

DRILL OVERVIEW

Technical Skill: Skating Edges

The following drills will demonstrate the specific foundational skating skills needed to move outside the crease with dynamic balance

SKATING DRILLS

Drill 1: Alternating Inside Edge Slalom Thru Pylons
Skill: Balanced Pressure On Isolated Inside Edge

Drill 2: Wide Circle Inside Edge (One Direction)
Skill: Control Of Turn With Balanced Pressure On Isolated Inside Edge

Drill 3: Wide Circle Inside Edge (Both Directions)
Skill: Control Of Turn With Balanced Pressure On Isolated Inside Edge

Drill 4: Wie Circle Inside Edges (10 & 2 o’clock Foot Placement)
Skill: Control Of Turn With Balanced Pressure On Both Inside Edges

Estimated At Clinic Practice: 5 – 10 minutes

AT HOME PRACTICE ADVISE

Watch the various drills several times with the intention of recognizing the skating patterns and directions to move thru the drill correctly.

Then, without distractions, close your eyes and mentally visualize yourself executing the skating drills as shown in the video.

This mental practice at home will allow you to maximize the benefits of the physical practice.

Estimated At Home Practice: 10 – 15 minutes

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT

Sculling Inside Edge For Stable C-Cut Base

PRACTICE OVERVIEW

Technical Skill: C-Cut Transitions
Core Element: Active C-Cut Base

This video will break down and demonstrate the skill pieces of a complex movement in a progression towards executing them together in sequence.

PRACTICE OBJECTIVE

At Home:

To better understand the progressions, It is highly recommended that you set yourself up in a quiet place to watch the video several times.

Then, without distractions, close your eyes and mentally visualize yourself executing the progressions as shown in the video.

By visualizing each progression and the final collaborated sequence, you can prepare yourself to physically execute the movement patterns with confidence and bring more mental awareness when it comes time to practice the skill.

Estimated At Home Practice: 23 – 30 minutes

At Clinic:

In a group format, you will be guided thru each skill piece progression and finishing off the Functional Movement drill with the ‘whole’ technical skill.

Being prepared with a good mental picture of the movement patterns will allow you to maximize the benefits of the physical practice.

Estimated At Clinic Practice: 5 – 10 minutes

DRILL CIRCUIT
