SKILL LEARNING LIBRARY

‘Foot Spacing’ Instruction Video

'Coiled Legs' Instruction Video

'Flexed Coiled Push Leg' Instruction Video

TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION VIDEO OVERVIEW

These instruction videos will zoom in on the ‘skill chunk’ of a technical ‘Core Element’ and analyze the Body Alignment and Muscular Engagement needed when setting up and executing the ‘whole’ Technical Skill.

PRE CAMP LEARNING PREP

Challenge yourself to mentally download the information by watching the video several times with the intention of understanding the activation and configuration lines needed to correctly execute the skill.

This understanding of the skill will better allow you to be guided by the instructors and correct yourself with a ‘deep thinking’ awareness during training camps, team practices and in-game performance.

Estimated At Home Practice:
7 – 10 minutes per video
(or as many times as you need to fully understand the information)
COACHING TIPS:
1) You will definitely benefit by making time to watch each video 2 or 3 times before the start of your camp week.
2) Make time to calculate your ‘personal’ foot spacing distance and make a spacing tool that will be used practice your at home ‘Isolation Drills’
2) Quickly review each video before you step on the ice for each camp day.

OFF-THE-ICE DRILLS

'Step Into Foot Spacing' Isolation Drill

'Hip Hinge Into Level Hips' Isolation Drill

'Twist w Torso Tilt Into Bent Stride Knee' Isolation Drill

PRE CAMP OFF-THE-ICE PRACTICE

The process of ‘practicing’ a skill, ‘recording’ yourself, and ‘assessing’ your practice videos creates a powerful feedback loop for improvement.
By capitalizing on the benefits of analyzing your technical movement, you can identify weaknesses, refine techniques, and progress more effectively toward mastering your mechanics.
You can challenge yourself by repeating this ‘Practice, Record and Assess’ process as many times as you need, so that you can pinpoint specific errors or mistakes in your performance.

Estimated At Home Practice
Physically Execute Each Exercise: 10 – 15 minutes
Watch & Assess Each Recorded Drill: 10 – 15 minutes
COACHING TIPS:
1) You will definitely benefit by making time to Practice, Record and Assess each drill 2 or 3 times before the start of your camp week.
2) While at home, before attending each day of your camp, make time to execute each ‘Isolation Drill’ with mindful awareness to correcting the functional movement areas that challenged you.
2) At the rink, you can use the isolation drills as part of your pre-ice warm up.
