‘Start The T-Push’ Progression Drill

Series: Standing Transitions
Technical Skill: T-Push Transition

PRACTICE OVERVIEW

The Start the T-Push Progression Drill helps goalies mentally and physically connect the key pieces of an efficient crease movement:

  1. > the pivot action that angles your body into the shooting lane, and

  2. > the strong drive created from a Fixed Coiled Leg that leads into clean leg separation.

Across four simple progressions, goalies learn to feel the sequence—pivot, load, drive, separate—while reinforcing balance, alignment, and consistent push mechanics. By slowing it down mentally first, each rep builds better intention, sharper control, and cleaner activation through the hips and push leg.

To supercharge your improvement, video yourself performing each progression on the ice, then compare your clips to the GTB demo instructor. This side-by-side review makes it easy to spot differences in alignment, load position, and timing patterns so you can refine your mechanics with purpose and see measurable gains every session.

BENEFITS OF MENTAL PRACTICE VIDEOS

Enhanced Focus and Concentration: Mental practice drills require sustained attention, which helps improve focus and concentration over time. As the goalie continually engage in mental exercises, they train their mind to stay attentive for longer periods, leading to improved concentration when physically practicing the alignment and movement patterns of each skill.

Mental practice, also known as visualization or mental rehearsal, involves imagining the performance of a skill or action without physically executing it. This technique has been widely studied and utilized in various sports and is found to offer numerous benefits for understanding the skill, skill improvement, and confidence building.

Success during mental practice and effective performance on the ice can boost motivation and self-confidence, which are crucial for achieving goals.
