GOALIE TOOLBOX LEARNING RESOURCE
‘Leg Configuration’ Instruction Video
VIDEO OVERVIEW
Skill Chunk: Leg Alignment with Strong Knees
Core Element: Active High Crouch Base
Technical Skill: High Crouch Stance
This instruction video will zoom in on the ‘skill chunk’ of a technical ‘Core Element’ and analyze the Body Alignment and Muscular Engagement needed when setting up and executing the ‘whole’ Technical Skill.
Video Run Time: 10 minutes, 43 seconds
PRE CLINIC LEARNING PREP
Challenge yourself to mentally download the information by watching the video several times with the intention of understanding the activation and configuration lines needed to correctly execute the skill.
This understanding of the skill will better allow you to be guided by the instructors and correct yourself with a ‘deep thinking’ awareness during training clinics, team practices and in-game performance.
FOUNDATIONAL SKATING
Pivots With Aggressive Balance
Watch the video several times with the intention of understanding the foundational skating drill patterns so you are better prepared for when you practice it on the ice.
Estimated At Clinic Practice: 5 – 10 minutes
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT
Push Thru Foot Spacing For Stable Shuffles
TECHNICAL SKILL
Shuffle Transitions
CORE ELEMENT
Active Shuffle Base
PRACTICE OBJECTIVE
At Home:
To better understand the progressions, It is highly recommended that you set yourself up in a quiet place to watch the video several times.
Then, without distractions, close your eyes and mentally visualize yourself executing the progressions as shown in the video.
By visualizing each progression and the final collaborated sequence, you can prepare yourself to physically execute the movement patterns with confidence and bring more mental awareness when it comes time to practice the skill.
Estimated At Home Practice: 23 – 30 minutes
At Clinic:
In a group format, you will be guided thru each skill piece progression and finishing off the Functional Movement drill with the ‘whole’ technical skill.
Being prepared with a good mental picture of the movement patterns will allow you to maximize the benefits of the physical practice.
Estimated At Clinic Practice: 5 – 10 minutes
DRILL CIRCUIT
Drill 1: Standing Glove and Blocker Save Technique
DRILL PACK
Save Selections
SKILL FOCUS
Shift Torso Towards While Tracking Puck Into Save
Watch the video several times with the intention of understanding what is involved in executing so you are better prepared for when you practice it on the ice.
Estimated At Clinic Practice: 6 – 12 minutes
Drill 2: Vertical/Horizontal (VH) Stance Technique
DRILL PACK
Down Low Transitions
SKILL FOCUS
Maintain Muscular Activation Into Post Side Leg To Support Upper Body Thru VH Transfer
Watch the video several times with the intention of understanding what is involved in executing so you are better prepared for when you practice it on the ice.
Estimated At Clinic Practice: 6 – 12 minutes
Drill 3a: Dynamic Transitional Movement (Video Required)
BASELINE PERFORMANCE FOCUS
Executed at ‘Slow Flow Tempo’ (50% to 60% Speed) with a focus on mindfully executing the skill keys when dynamically transitioning thru each technical movement into position
NOTE: Tempo, technical skills and transitions can be adjusted according to the student’s training profile.
Watch the video several times with the intention of understanding what is involved in executing so you are better prepared for when you practice it on the ice.
Estimated At Clinic Practice: 6 – 12 minutes
Drill 3b: Dynamic Transitional Movement
BASELINE PERFORMANCE FOCUS
Executed at ‘Threshold Edge Tempo’ (80% Speed) that pushes explosive acceleration and transitional agility while maintaining functional efficiency when transitioning thru the movement patterns
into position and ready to read, recognize and react
NOTE: Tempo, technical skills and transitions can be adjusted according to the student’s training profile.
